Imaging services & Fetal screening
Most of the hospitals have 4D ultrasound – GE Voluson However, since our facility is dedicated to obstetrics, we house an ultrasound which not only detects fetal movements but also scores high on two important features.
Namely :
Image Quality:
The images are much more clearer/ richer and the clarity is further reflected when the same image is viewed in an HD display.
Detection of Fetal Anomalies:
All prior pre-birth defects can be easily diagnosed in conjunction with a fetal medicine expert.
Please also note that the Birthplace is one of the first facilities in India to install the Voluson E-8, BT-12 Ultrasound.
Labor & Delivery
Concept of LDR
Presently, the delivery in existing hospitals takes place in three stages in three different rooms – labor, delivery and recovery. At every different stage, the mother is moved from room to room, something that can tend to be very tiring for her.
The Birthplace will integrate all the three stages in the same room. It will be called 'The LDR Suite.'
To equip these rooms, we need a special LDR bed. Hill-Rom, a US based firm is the best in this category. Among various options,The Birth Place will house the Affinity – 4, one of the latest LDR beds.
Currently, few hospitals in India have similar beds and out of which even fewer have the Hill-Rom beds.
Since out medical team is available on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the expecting mother will be introduced to the entire clinical support team- aesthetician, and nursing staff, to ensure that she is comfortable with them.
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
The Birth Place houses an ultramodern NICU- level 4, with a dedicated team of neonatologists and trained nurses to handle premature deliveries and other emergencies.
In addition, the following are also available:
- Maternal ICU
- Diagnostics
- Pharmacy
- Septic NICU
Post-natal services
We realize and appreciate the fact that if a mother has ten questions while being pregnant, she'll probably have a hundred more once the baby is born. To handle that and more, The Birthplace offers new parents a host of post-natal services.
| 1. | Yoga: To help the mother get back in shape after she has delivered her bundle of joy, we organize post-natal yoga sessions. |
2. | Mother & baby exercises: We also help organize fun sessions, which the mother can attend with her baby. These will help her and the baby both exercise and enjoy the routine too. |
3. | Diet & Nutrition: To help the mother regain her shape and strength, and at the same time nurse the baby properly, our diet & nutrition specialist will offer her expert guidance. |
4. | Train one family member: In our experience, the mother is usually tired in the first few months after her delivery. To help her out, we will offer 'Practical Parenting Workshop' to anybody the family appoints. It could be the grandmother, or even a long-standing maid of the family. This workshop will help them understand all the practical tips and ideas to ensure the baby grows up being healthy and happy. |
5. | Doctor visits: Keeping the mother and newborn’s comfort in mind, our junior gynecologist will visit the mother at her house a week after she has gone home. Our doctor will do a quick check for mothers and also answer any questions she may have. |
6. | Post-partum counseling: We’ll also offer counseling service to mothers to help them deal with post-partum depression, if any. |
Hospital Information System
At The Birthplace, we have invested significantly in systems and technology that support customer service. We encourage our people to understand and use these systems.
Our HIS can be divided into three sub parts
| 1. | Admission, Scheduling, Registration, Billing and Discharge a. Technology: iPad, Stakeholders: Customer care executives |
2. | Capturing Patient Records a. Technology: Dot pen and paper, Stakeholders: Doctors’ and Nurses’ |
3. | Regular HIS modules a. Pharmacy, procurement etc, Stakeholders: Other administrative staff |

Patient Facilitation Processes using iPad
Objective: To ensure that the entire patient flow is smooth and seamless
The iPad is primarily intended to be used by the CCEs. This eliminates the need for a reception at the facility and queues, which is a typical sight at any hospital.
Adding, to this, the technology also eliminates the need of additional manpower. Similarly some of the processes which are time intensive in regular hospitals such as billing and subsequent discharge will require significantly lesser time at The Birthplace and can be done at the convenience of the patient. Even for OPs, a consolidated billing happens at the end of the patient visit – this includes consultation charges, tests, diagnostics and pharmacy.
Capturing Patient Records
Objective: To cue that we do not just tell we are ‘ethical’ but also communicate it in our processes and build trust with our patients
The basic concept behind the Anoto Dot paper and pen technology is that any thing you write on a dot paper sheet with a digital pen is captured as an image by the pen which is reproduced on a computer - as good as scanning the sheet of paper on which you write something. The thing that makes this cooler than scanning a sheet of paper is that we can define fields and check boxes on the dot paper and whatever is written in these fields is captured intelligently by the system. For example, if you write your date of birth on the dot paper in a date of birth field, the computer will know it as 24th February 1955 as opposed to just the image of 24th February 1955 in your handwriting). The handwriting recognition itself is pretty decent and works perfectly for numbers and text written in block letters in boxes. Even without handwriting recognition, having the notes of doctors and nurses as they are written for reference at anytime is very useful.
Currently, most of the hospitals capture patient records on paper, which is subsequently entered in the computer. There are many errors in the entire process, apart from the records not being captured a large number of times to error in the records.
Using dot paper and pen ensures that we capture all patient records – for both outpatients and inpatients on a real time basis. The same is integrated in the HIS under the unique patient id and can be given to the patient anytime. It is as comprehensive as possible and could include both case history and notes at any of the touch points in the hospital.
This is intended to be used by doctors’ and nurses’ to capture the patient records.
*Please note that the word ‘patient’ has been used only for the purposes of understanding. We would refer the patients by ‘guest’ at the Birthplace.

Lactation Consultant
Breastfeeding can often make a difference in the health and welfare of mothers and babies. We have special nurses and lactation consultants, both of whom will support the mother. Our lactation consultant will meet and help the mother understand the importance of breastfeeding and techniques as part of the our ante-natal services.
Once the baby arrives, our lactation consultant will visit the mother everyday till she is in the facility, to make sure she is comfortable.
Nursing care
Good nursing care is absent in most of the healthcare facilities in India. Since nurses play a very critical role in the entire caregiver cycle, a good nursing care can set benchmarks in the current healthcare scenario in India.
That's why nursing care forms an important part of the caregiver cycle. Unlike most of the existing facilities where nurses spend almost 50% of their time on paperwork, we would use technology to enable nurses spend almost all of their time with their patients.
